Icehotel
Every winter, blocks of ice are cut from the Torne River. By spring, the hotel built from them is water again.
The idea began in 1989 and became the first hotel of its kind. Each season, artists and designers are invited to create individual art suites, so no two winters look the same. Guests sleep on reindeer hides in insulated sleeping bags, at a steady few degrees below zero.
A permanent part of the complex, kept frozen year-round, means ice rooms can be seen in summer too. Warm rooms are also on site for the nights either side. Kiruna Airport is a short transfer away.
